Girls Weekend

Wednesday, September 30, 2009

Took me a bit to get to this post but I definitely wanted to blog about it! Last weekend my husband was kind enough to let me have a girls weekend. It's been about 2 years since I have been able to do something like that and I had a great time! Kristin and I headed to San Antonio on Friday afternoon. Checked into the hotel and changed clothes so we could head to the riverwalk for dinner.

We found a yummy Mexican food place and enjoyed some fajitas. What dinner isn't complete with out a mariachi band:)
Being hotel people we did what any normal person would do and checked out some of the other Marriott's on the river. We just wandered and looked at the meeting space...we are super cool:)

We woke up the next morning and went to Sea World. It wasn't to hot and we had a great time. I absolutely love feeding the dolphins!

Doesn't it look like she is smiling:)

After that we drove to Austin to stay with her sister and visit Kristin's nephews. Jack is 2 and Robert is about 4 weeks old. SO CUTE! We told them to go out on a date so we could babysit!

We woke up the next morning and just hung out and then drove to have lunch with her parents. We headed home after that. We had a good time and I loved going with Kristin!

Savannah is Walking!!

Tuesday, September 29, 2009

Savi is WALKING:) She of course starts really doing it after mommy leaves on Friday to go out of town and then must wait till Sunday to see it:( Here is a quick video of her doing it. The video is kinda long and the only part you probably want to see is the very beginning. After that she just plays:) Please ignore our messy playroom. We are in the process of trying to think of a cute theme. Please share your ideas!!! I have a daybed in this room also that I want to keep. So I have to also have bedding or something that goes with the theme.

Show Us Your Life-Favorite Dessert

Thursday, September 24, 2009

This week at KellysKorner we are doing favorite desserts. I was introduced to this dessert by my mother-in-law. I like it for 2 reasons. 1 it is really easy to make and 2 it is so yummy! It has this sweet taste with the fruit and it is just heaven!

DUMP CAKE

1 can of cherry pie filling
1 can (20 oz.) crushed pineapple, drained
1 box (18.25 oz.) yellow or white cake mix
1 stick (1/2 cup/4 oz.) butter

Instructions:

1). Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (180 C).

2). In a 9 x 13-inch cake pan, add drained peaches.

3). Next, add the dry cake mix. On top of cake mix add crushed drained pineapple.

4). Melt butter and pour over mixture.

5). Bake in oven for about an hour, depending on your oven. Top of cake will turn golden brown.

6). Let cool for about 10 minutes and then serve with vanilla ice cream on top. YUMMY!!

Bigger and Better

Thursday, September 24, 2009

The Texas State Fair is going to be here VERY soon! I have gone every year since probably middle school. Like seriously have not missed a year. We used to get a special day off school specifically called fair day that my parents would always take us. Since then I have just always found a way to go! Now I usually take a day off so we can go in the middle of a week when it is less crowded. I think last year it was Charlie and I's first time away from Savi after I had her when we went to the fair. I love to print out a map of the park and all the different things showcased and plan out exactly what we want to do. Then I map it so that we make a perfect circle and never back track. I'm such a nerd but I LOVE it:) We get to do everything we want and only spend 2-3 hours there. Which is the perfect amount of time. We are not really ride people, we are there for the FOOD! Jk we see and do many other things while we are there, but there is nothing like a state fair corn dog! Everything is bigger and better in TEXAS and our state fair does not disappoint:) Can't wait!

KellysKorner Favorite Recipes

Thursday, September 17, 2009

This week at KellysKorner, we are doing favorite recipes! I hope I get some good ideas:) So this recipe below is pretty much the best quesadillas I have ever had! They are different to and I so wouldn't have thought I would like them as much as I did. They just taste so good!

Monterrey Chicken Quesadillas

  • 1/2 lb. shredded or diced cooked chicken (I used one large boneless, skinless chicken breast, cooked in the oven)
  • 3/4 c. barbecue sauce (bottled or homemade)
  • 1/2 lb. bacon
  • 1 onion, thinly sliced
  • 2 c. shredded cheese (I use Monterrey Jack, but anything would work)
  • 6 burrito-sized flour tortillas
  • Butter

1. Combine chicken and barbecue sauce. Set aside.

2. Dice the bacon and add to a small skillet. Cook until desired crispness. Remove bacon from skillet with a slotted spoon to drain.

3. Add the sliced onion to the bacon grease in the skillet. Cook for about 5 minutes, until fully cooked. Remove onions with a slotted spoon and drain.

4. Build quesadillas – on a tortilla layer cheese, chicken, bacon, onion, more cheese and top with a second tortilla.

Birthday Butterfly Bash:)

Sunday, September 13, 2009

Savi had such a good birthday party. We all ate on hot dogs and sweets and then watched her open presents! She did great. If it was a bag then she loved to pull out the tissue paper and see what was in the bag! Then we did cake and let me tell you…this child had no problem digging in. Charlie and I thought for sure we were in for a long night with all that sugar. Surprisingly she went to bed with no problems and we didn't hear from her till the next morning. We love our little angel and had the best birthday bash! (Warning...picture overload!)Our candy buffet! I made a sign that said Savannah's Sweets!

The candy says happy 1st birthday Savannah!

The yummy cake!

Butterfly hot dogs! This was so easy and a cute decoration!
This was the weekend before of Savi opening her gifts from aunt Missy!

Free At Last!

Sunday, September 13, 2009

Since Savi has turned one, I am officially free of breastfeeding!!! I had a personal goal to do it for a whole year and succeeded! It was hard at times. I have literally cried over spilled milk! There is nothing worse when I am transferring all my milk to bottles and stuff and one spills over and I loose even just an ounce! As my mother-in-law refers to it....milk is like gold! Not necessarily abundant and very precious:) There were times where I just didn't get enough pumped during the day while I was at work and had to wake myself up at 2am to pump one more time so Savi would have enough during the day. Other times I had plenty and more to provide for her. It was a crazy roller coaster but it was so good for her and me. We have weened her off of breast milk to whole milk and she has done great! I hurt a little but not to bad. Either way I am proud to say that I am free at last from pumping and all things breastfeeding for now;)

Happy Birthday!

Friday, September 11, 2009

Last year my life changed forever. It was one of the most single important moments in my life and the greatest experience ever! Charlie and I saw my OB that afternoon and she said I looked great but no baby. I was unsure what to do. That day was my due date and I had already planned to be done with work. The OB said we could induce but wasn't sure how well it would go knowing I really didn't want a c-section. Charlie and I talked for a moment and decided that we wanted to try and have her so we checked into the hospital that night to get cervidil first. Cervidil is something that helps kinda ripen the uterus/cervix and hopefully makes everything just go smoother. I got all settled in that night and my parents came to visit and brought Charlie and I Subway. We watched Friends and all was well:) Once the nurses hooked me up to everything they said you are definitely having some contractions. I was like…uh yeah I can feel them all the time! They told me to get lots of rest and we would induce in the morning. Well turns out cervidil did its job WONDERFULLY! So wonderfully that I went into natural labor and didn't get induced at all. I spent the whole night dealing with the contractions till about 3am. I woke Charlie up and asked him to get the nurses as they were a little to intense and I didn't understand what was going on. (I was under the impression that all this was supposed to be happening the next day. I didn't realize I was in full on labor.) They told me I was dilated more and said they would start the process of getting me ready for an iv and an epidural. But in the mean time to take a hot shower to try and help relieve my stress/pain. So yes in mid labor we got up and took a shower. There was a chair in the shower and I managed to take one. It kinda helped I guess and did feel good to be clean. At that point we sat in my bed and Charlie helped me breath through all my contractions. It hurt but wasn't ridiculous and was probably the coolest thing ever. I know that sounds weird but I so wanted to experience it and I did! Charlie was right by my side and helped me all the way through. The nurse started my iv after 3 attempts:) I didn't really care, I was to busy with those darn contractions. I got my epidural around 7am and had Savannah Leigh on September 11, 2008 at 8:34am. (Sometimes I wonder if I could have done the whole thing without the epidural since I was so close…but then I think about he pushing her out of me part and how I felt none of that and think, mmm maybe I shouldn't chance that:)) She only took 2 pushes to get out and then she was here in all her glory weighing 6 lbs 15 oz and 18.5 inches.

All checked in and waiting for a baby!

First family photo!

The moments that make your life so worth it and special!

Charlie and I love her so much and she has brought nothing but joy to us! Today she turns 1 and I am so excited for her. I am not crazy emotional for some reason at how fast she is growing. I was emotional at times about her getting bigger, but that was more around the 6 month stage. While time does seem to pass so fast, I am just so happy to see her healthy, growing, and learning new things every day. We could not be more blessed with family and friends that love on Savi all the time. We are excited to have them all over tonight to celebrate this wonderful year of Savannah's life! Aunt Missy…we will miss you:) Pictures to come of her birthday party!
