This weekend was so busy. As Charlie said below we celebrated his birthday Friday and Sunday evening. Then on Saturday I taught dance and played in a golf tournament with my dad at The Tribute. Very fun but I did not play as well as I would have liked:( That for sure wore me out! Then Sunday I went to Angie's shower and celebrated Charlie's b'day with all the extra food:) By the time I got home, I pretty much went straight to bed!
On another note this past week we had ordered the nursery bedding and it came in! It is so cute!!! We put what we could up or together in the room. There still is painting to be done, so that stopped us from doing several things like the curtains, and hanging up pictures. We have a ways to go, but it already looks so good! I also went to Target and picked out something for the bathroom upstairs, which will mostly serve as our little girls bathroom for now. I chose pink and orange polka dots. It came out very cute as well. If we ever have a boy it will probably need to be changed out, but for now it will be perfect!
Well, this past Monday was my birthday. I'm a ripe, old 27. Brittany planned a surprise for me last Friday, and my whole family was there. It was a really fun night. We went to a Frisco Rough Riders game. Brittany even got my name up on the scoreboard! The Rough Riders lost, but it was still great. There were even fireworks after the game!
On Sunday, I was supposed to go over to my parents' house for dinner for a small family birthday. However, there was so much food left over at my cousin Angie's bridal shower, that we all went there instead and celebrated! The food was very good. My parents replaced all of my Harry Potter DVDs that were stolen and also got me a gift certificate to Lowe's, which I plan to put to very good use.
On Monday, my actual birthday, I worked, and we had a very good lunch. That night, Brittany and I ordered a FREE! Mr. Jim's pizza. I had a great birthday, so thank you to Brittany and my family for making it so special!
I think, that as a dad, I will be facing a rough, but fun, road. If we were having a boy, it would be alot easier, because I can relate and would know how to approach situations as they occur. But a girl is a whole new world. I have no sisters, and haven't been around any baby girls for any extended period of time. I'm going to take an each day at a time approach. Everything will be new. I'm going to have to learn how to do hair, put on little dresses and outfits (and make sure everything actually matches), and let myself experience wonderful new things like tea parties, dress-up, barbies, and princesses. At least that's the stereotype I'm assuming. But it will all be fun. I'm sure of it! Well, except for one thing. I'm not sure I am prepared for the mother/daughter shopping sprees. That will be a tough one!
Our crib set (bedding and accesories) should arrive today. Here is a pic of it below. If it does indeed arrive today, I'm sure Brittany will have it all set up before I get home! It's going to look great.
On a similar note, Brittany and I registered at Babies R Us on Sunday. Working in a NICU, I knew most of the things that were in there are things we will need, but I was NOT prepared for how many options and different styles there were. They have everything! We chose not to register for the crib bedding, clothes, and a few other things we already have...but everything else was fair game. And man, baby stuff sure is expensive. I almost feel guilty for putting things on our list. Like the baby monitoring system was $100 or so! Eesh, just for one item! But overall, it was really fun, and got us both really excited. We're praying for another healthy 20 weeks!
To close today's entry, I have to announce that last week I declared war on the ants in our backyard. Five ant mounds versus yours truly. It was an ugly match. Previous attempts over the last 3 weeks were unsuccessful, so I came out swinging last Friday. First, I flooded each mound and flattened them to the ground. Then, I sprayed one of my ant killers on all the mounds and drenched the swarming ants. And finally, I took my Andro and spread it around each mound. The next morning there was no activity in 4/5 mounds. In fact, I saw birds eating the exposed ant eggs the day before! The one mound had a grand total of 3 ants I saw, and each one of those was carrying Andro. Tomorrow I will go back and see if all the mounds are destroyed! Let's hope my flooding the mounds didn't cause them to move, but I'm pretty confident I finished the job this time.
We went to the doctor Thursday and I was so happy to find out that it for sure is a girl. Our little girl was moving all over the place during the sonogram. It will be so cool to really feel her as she keeps growing. I feel flutters every now and then but it is always so light and hard to tell. I want a good hard kick!
I want to take a minute and say that I have a great husband. He has been great so far through out the pregnancy. I came home Friday and he had mowed the lawn, done all the laundry, swept, vacuumed, and had dinner ready for me when I came home. After that he drew me a nice relaxing bath. He has been working a lot lately and I really appreciate that he used one of his days off to do all that work so that my weekend would be a bit more relaxing!
This weekend we decided to take advantage of the great weather and work on the front yard. We edged all of our landscaping, planted flowers, and added mulch. It looks great if I do say so myself. It was hard work, but it felt good to take pride in something you own and make it look pretty! We then decided to cool off a bit and wash the cars. The rest of the night will be spent relaxing after a hard day of work!
Brittany and I are so excited. We kind of had a feeling it was a girl all along, and yesterday our suspiscions were confirmed. The name we like right now is Savannah Leigh Scott. This, of course, could very well change, but Brittany is pretty set on this name! At our appointment yesterday, the ultrasound also told us a couple other things. First, the baby is a wee bit older than we thought. The sono had the baby at 19 weeks, 1 day. That's about 4 days older than we thought. It pushed the due date up to Sept. 10th. Of course, it's all relative, and the baby could come anywhere in that time frame. The second thing was that Brittany has still only gained a whopping 9 pounds! She's still very tiny :) And finally, the baby's foot measured 1 inch! We got a good pic of it, and I'll try to get it posted up here later. Time to start kicking mommy real hard!
Brittany here again. Appeasing Charlie:)
This past weekend was nice and relaxing. Exactly how we wanted it. We hung out at the house mostly, except for me going to teach and lunch with Charlie's family. We finally managed to find an XBOX game that I enjoy playing. So we spent alot of the weekend doing that, and well Charlie likes it alot too so he has already beat it. I am not quite that dedicated:) Got some house cleaning done, and purchased some barstools. Charlie did yard work on Thursday and it looked great! I was impressed. All in all boring, but so what the doctor ordered!
I'm not sure that this past weekend actually counted as a weekend for Brittany and I. Our ideal Saturday and Sunday is spent resting and catching up from the past week's work. We try to do as much as we can together. For my part, it wasn't too bad. Chris came in town with some of his friends, and it was really good seeing him. I probably won't get to see him again until Kyle's wedding, since he will be in Chicage for the summer. He has an internship up there working with some sort of security system company. So, I'm glad he was able to come down. He got to see our house for the first time, which is cool. He also loved our little kitten! I guess my weekend wasn't too busy, but it was hard because Brittany wasn't really around. She had to housesit, work both Saturday and Sunday, and run a handful of other errands. I tried to help her out the best I could, but most of it was stuff she had to do herself. So we only had a couple times to do things together. This next weekend should be much better though. We will see how it works out.
Tarheels (the kitten) has graduated to full house access! He has passed his night time tests where we let him roam as he pleased while we were asleep. Surprisingly though, he didn't sleep in our bedroom. He sleeps downstairs for the most part. But he never fails to let us know that at 6am, it's time for food. He's up and meowing, relentless in his pursuit to get us up, until one of us succumbs and goes downstairs.
Brittany is 17 weeks pregnant as of yesterday! Almost halfway there! She hit a milestone this weekend. Finally. She has officially gained 10 pounds. It took forever! She's going to be a really tiny pregnant lady! :)
On a final note, I feel a little bad for Brit as we head into spring and summer. Everyone that I have talked to feels for her because she's going to go through her later parts of pregnancy in the dead heat of the Texas summer. I'm going to be on my best behavior to make sure it's as easy on her as possible!
This is one of the most precios videos I have ever seen. It will make you tear up!
Thursday, April 24th. That's our date for the ultrasound that SHOULD tell us whether we are having a boy or girl. Brittany will be 19 weeks and 4 days at that point. This is all assuming, of course, that our baby isn't modest and decides to hide from us. Brittany is hoping for a girl (which the perinatologist thinks it is), and I am still holding out hope for a boy! Twenty more days and we will know for sure!
Last night's storm was pretty intense. I think we had 50-60 mph winds at our house. And the hail was marble size, but I think we got a few golf ball size hail as well. There were some pretty nasty thuds hitting our house. It was about 0145am and I was about ready to get Brittany and the pets downstairs and into the closet underneath the stairs. But it suddenly and instantly let up. Afterwards, we got some more rain, but that was about it. I haven't checked to see what all the wind and hail did to our house, if anything at all, but I will definitely do it tonight. I guess, to be on the positive side, at least we got some more rain!
I think my loving husband may be exagerating a bit on the hail we may have received. Perhaps just normal size and nothing quite as big as GOLF BALL SIZE:) Gotta love him!
I guarantee there were several golf ball size hail that hit the house last night! After all, I did go outside at 2am to see the storm :)
So I have decided to grace the blog with my presence, but don't get used to it. Charlie has been asking me to post, so I decided to go ahead and do it. I don't like writing out my thoughts for the whole world to see. It's a self conscious thing mostly.
Anyway I was waiting for Charlie to come home last night and I saw on TLC a marathon of Jon and Kate + 8. I love that show. As I watched I thought "WOW!" I so don't want 8 kids. Their life is crazy, and lets face it I am way to OCD to be dealing with all that. But it made me smile alot about how when she comes home all of these little 3 year olds say "mommy, mommy" and they are so happy she is home. And she is a stay at home mom and only left for like 6 hours to go to the spa. It is crazy how much these little kids can miss you when they see you all the time. The night before we watched Knocked Up which I am sure if you read below you saw I was a little less than thrilled to be giving birth. I feel better now. I just have to remember all those glorious moments to come of when I leave or get home that someone will be saying to ME! "Mommy, Mommy" and jumping into my arms.
Brittany and I have been pretty busy the last couple of days. I have had the opportunity to work alot of extra hours, which is great, because I normally do not get the chance. Yesterday, we left Tarheels alone for the first time while we were at work. We closed our bedroom door, but he pretty much had access to the rest of the house. Our main concern was that he would not use his litterbox and go somewhere else. Luckily though, he did great! No messes, nothing knocked over or on the floor, and he used his litterbox everytime! I arrived home first last night, and I found him tucked away behind one of the couch pillows sleeping. He likes this spot, because that was the third time I had found him there, and he was there again this morning. Anyways, until we are certain he will leave our bedroom to use his litterbox, that room will stay shut while we are away.
On a bad note, I came home and tried to feed Tarheels, and there were ants all over his food bowl. I tried to find where they were coming from (and believe me, I looked hard), but no luck. The best I can tell is they are coming from somewhere behind the kitchen cabinets. I sprayed ant killer behind the fridge, and tomorrow I will buy some Andro or something to kill the 5+ ant mounds in our backyard. I am pretty confident this will take care of everything, but if it doesn't, I may have to call Mayday, or some pest controller near us.
Finally, Brittany signed us up for Netflix. The first movie we got in the mail was Knocked Up, and we watched that last night. When the contractions and screaming and childbirth were happening, Brittany was curled up by me saying, "This is freaking me out!" Me of course, being stupid, reassured her by saying that she should expect contractions to hurt and that a pain-free delivery was most unlikely. Whimpering, she said, "Lie to me!" I laughed, and told her that of course there would be no pain, that's what drugs are for. She's going to have a fast, easy, pain-free delivery that she'll barely even feel!
